It took place on 29 April 2013 in Brussels the high-level conference of the launch of the EU Strategy on Adaptation to Climate Change.
The strategy is been launched at a conference on 29 April in Brussels bringing together policy makers and practitioners working on adaptation to the impacts of climate change.
The one-day event provides an opportunity to present and discuss the EU strategy on adaptation to climate change, the framework it establishes, its main focus areas and suggested actions.
The overall goal is to support coherent, multi-level, multi-sector integrated adaptation policies in the EU.
On EU Strategy the European institutions will express themselves and which was adopted by the EU Commission on 16 April, together with the Green Paper on the insurance of natural and man-made disasters.
While the Strategy provides a framework and mechanisms to make the European States more capable of dealing with the effects of current and future climate change, the Green Paper launches a public consultation through which you want to gather opinions on the adequacy and availability of the types insurance currently on the market.
"Reducing global emissions of greenhouse gases must remain one of our top priorities, if we are to keep global warming below 2 ° C to prevent the onset of dangerous climate change“- said the EU Commissioner for Action Climate Connie Hedegaard – “ In Europe, however, the negative effects of climate change are already being felt more and more, so it is crucial that the spatial development takes place in the name of adaptation to these changes. Our strategy will help the leaders of the European countries to choose the best solutions in the interests of their citizens, in order to stimulate growth and employment and avoid having to face tomorrow significant human costs, economic and environmental".
