Nella piazza del Senato, forse l’antico forum della città romana strettamente collegato al limitrofo Anfiteatro, sorge il Palazzo del Senato (già dei Pilestri), edificato nella prima metà del 1200.

Ripetutamente colpito dai bombardamenti è stato ampiamente restaurato. La facciata è caratterizzata dal doppio ordine di finestre bifore del primo e del secondo piano con colonnine binate. La cornice scolpita a tutto sesto costituisce l’ornamento originale mentre le bifore con pilastrino sono frutto dei resturi del 1952.

Al piano terra vi sono due portali ogivali e un grande volto di passaggio alto due piani.

Il palazzo è oggi sede della Soprintendenza Belle Arti e Paesaggio delle Marche.

House of the Senate
In the Senate Square, possibly also the location of the ancient Roman forum, near the amphitheater, stands the Palace of the Senate (formerly Pilestri palace). It was built in the first half of the thirteenth century.
It suffered repeated bombings, and has been extensively restored. The facade is characterized by two orders of mullioned windows with twin columns. The frame with the round arch is
the original ornament while the mullioned windows themselves are the result of restorations made in 1952. On the ground floor there are two pointed-arch portals and a larger arch,
two floors tall. The palace now houses the Superintendency of Fine Arts and Landscape of the Marche.
